Welcome to my blog

We moved to Ireland with the notion of building our "dream" home in May 2007 after purchasing the site earlier on that year. Mr C is Irish and originally from Limerick but he remains in the UK during the week, his job is running www.cruise.co.uk and earning the bucks that will hopefully allow us to "live the dream."

It's taken us almost two years but ground will be broken on the site by the end of May 09!! A lot of blood, sweat & loads of tears (all mine!) have gone into this project already, we left a fabulous house behind in Newcastle...and now for my Kevin McLeod bit, "can the new build can live up to my expectations and the old house we left behind"? I'm not sure...keep watching my blog and you'll find out!!

U Turn

Have made a quick about turn on bathroom tiling after learning the lesson that less is most definitely more when you're dealing with pebble tiles!!

Where I was contemplating pebbles in other bathrooms I've made a quick switch to a brick bone mosaic tile.

something along the lines of....

I'm finding all the tile choosing to be my least favourite bit of the whole house build so far. I suppose I'm taking another leap in choosing this 'broken down' brick bone mosaic tile over something a little more traditional and safe, like this one here....

Trouble is I'm not a huge fan of bathroom tiles full stop, but as all my bathrooms are in theory wet rooms (there are no shower trays or glass panels), tiles without any shadow of doubt become a main feature!

So even though I know that I may be leaving myself a tad exposed to the potential of these brick bone tiles turning out a little "Barney Rubble" my decision is made.  Taking into consideration lessons learned, I'll be using these a little less liberally and keeping my fingers crossed!!

I hated choosing tile as well when we were building our house as well. It just seems hard to imagine what it would look like as a finished project. I just let my wife pick and the contractor that we hired from eContractorBids.com ended up doing a marvelous job. I think you are making the right choice in the bone tiles. They look great.

  2. Like the brick bone mosaic tiles & hopefully the tiler will find them less of a pain to work with plus you already did the traditional safe square look a few years ago now. It'll all look fine when its finished :-)

  3. Oh tiles were my least favourite thing too... I got so anxious over the whole thing and ended up being quite safe and boring. Trust your decisions... I reckon you are going to be pleasantly surprised.... your bathrooms will be stylishly different..... and stop focussing on Wilma, Fred, Barney and Betty! A-M xx

  4. Oh, Mrs C, how I feel for you! I hated choosing tiles too. I agonised over them for months! Luckily I like all of them except the kitchen backsplash. Best of luck..let us know how you go..Rxx

  5. Ok, girlie I am in awe of all your design under- takings. I would have been a nervous wreck! We are most likely going to give our kitchen a makeover this Summer. I will be contacting YOU dear for tile advice!

  6. I love the mosaic you have chosen, I just convinced my Mum to choose the same in her new beachhouse bathroom. Don't despair I think bathroom tiles catch everyone out, so hard to visualise and soooo much to choose from. It will all turn out beautifully :)

  7. Guess I'm not alone then in finding tile selection stressful!

Just delighted at the moment to have another thing ticked off my list!

Am trying to keep it all in perspective (which is hard at this stage in the build)..."it is only a house"..."they are only bathroom tiles" it's not life or death after all...and not everything will work out 100% right no matter how hard I try....

Thanks to you all for stopping by and taking the time to comment :- )
