Welcome to my blog

We moved to Ireland with the notion of building our "dream" home in May 2007 after purchasing the site earlier on that year. Mr C is Irish and originally from Limerick but he remains in the UK during the week, his job is running www.cruise.co.uk and earning the bucks that will hopefully allow us to "live the dream."

It's taken us almost two years but ground will be broken on the site by the end of May 09!! A lot of blood, sweat & loads of tears (all mine!) have gone into this project already, we left a fabulous house behind in Newcastle...and now for my Kevin McLeod bit, "can the new build can live up to my expectations and the old house we left behind"? I'm not sure...keep watching my blog and you'll find out!!

Can you tell the difference?

Right, need to make a decision pronto on my light fittings (this week just the downlights...thank goodness).  Choice is between

Deep - Wever & Ducre

and

Deep Ringo - Deltalight

The positions of the downlights are already decided upon (phew...ticked that job of the list a while ago).  Just need to make a final call which light to go for....have narrowed it down to two options....ahhh why am I finding it so difficult to decided between the two....THEY ARE SO SIMILAR!!!

Can you tell the difference?? Even their names are almost the same!  The main albeit small difference is that the Deep Ringo from Deltalight, is ever so slightly more recessed into the ceiling than the Deep from Wever & Ducre.

the look I'm attemping to achieve

found this image on splendidwillow.com - well worth a look at the rest of the house, if you haven't already!

Slightly off topic....I also loved this

Love everything about this room ....nothing I could possibly imagine embellishing on here.

The one element that did catch my eye in particular was the quirky access to the guest bedroom (your guests would have to be agile wouldn't they?!)  Said bedroom is actually  a little loft that you access by using the ladder.

My older two kids  have a sleep deck similar to this in their bedrooms....Mr C is having kittens about how high up they are and how safe ladder access like this will be.....if it's good enough for this dream home...well.....Mr C I hope you read this!!

  1. Only difference I can see apart from the depth is that one edge trim (on Deep)looks somewhat flatter than the other. Deep Ringo seems to have a more rounded edge. Have you chosen yet? They are so similar - go for the cheapest if there is a price difference. If not, flip a coin!

  2. Oh, I have no clue on which to pick. They look almost identical. Yes, perhaps let the price decide?

When can we move in?! (:

  3. Hi Joanne, Keith and I are in Ireland (were going to Tenerife but volcanic ash got in the way!!) Lovely country - and weather has been kind (although not as hot as Tenerife :-))). Looked on your blog to see whether we were anywhere near you, but we aren't. Off back to Newcastle tomorrow. Hope your mam got over for Orla's birthday. Sorry to hear about the break in, but better before you move in I suppose. Anyway, good luck with your build - not long now to move in. Love Susan (Lee)

Just wondering about Wevre and Ducre lighting and quality...I like what I see but can get no reviews. We are just at same stage as you in house build ...the fun ...what did you choose in the end?

  6. Hi Rosemary,

I went for the Deltalight Deep Ringo in the end - they are just going up now, there'll be pics on the blog soon.

The Wever & Ducre fittings did seem like better quality to be fair, though they were slightly more expensive. I chose the Deltalight fittings as they were a brighter white colour and slightly more recessed. The Wever & Ducre fittings are a definite off white/grey-ish colour, but quality wise very good.

I bought mine from DM Lights in Belgium they gave me a price that couldn't be matched here in Ireland.

I'm finding all the finer detailing of the build quite exhausting!! Just happy at the moment that the lights are going up and it's another thing ticked off the list...where are you building?
